Instructions for authors in Medycyna Wieku Rozwojowego/Developmental Period Medicine  

1. Medycyna Wieku Rozwojowego/Developmental Period Medicine is a quarterly journal published by the Institute of Mother and Child in Warsaw. It is indexed in INDEX MEDICUS/MEDLINE. The journal publishes original research studies, reviews, clinical case studies, public health studies and communications, both in Polish and in English.

2. Manuscripts should be send to Medycyna Wieku Rozwojowego/Developmental Period Medicine in two copies of single sided computer print out, on A4 format paper with a margin of 4 cm on the left side and double space between lines. Authors are asked to include a diskette (3,5 or CD) with the submitted text, preferably in Word for Windows.

3. Original articles, together with tables, figures and references should not exceed  21600 printing marks (12 pages), reviews up to 36000 printing marks (20 pages).

4. The front page of the manuscript should contain the author(s)’ full name and surname, the article’s title, the authors’ affiliation, the scientific title, the first letter of the first name and the surname of the head of the institution. 

5. A summary of 200-250 words should preceed the main article. Summaries in Polish and in English should contain the following structure: aim, material and method, results, conclusions. Abbreviations should not be used in the title or the summary. At the end of the text there should be the full name and surname of the first author, full postal address for correspondence, telephone number and e-mail address.

6. Key words (3-6) will be printed both in English and in Polish, according to the Medial Subject Heading Index Medicus Catalogue (MeSH) website  http://www.nlm.nih.gov.mesh/MBrower.html). Key words should not be a repetition of the title.

7. The text of original research studies must have the following structure: aim, material and methods, results, discussion, conclusions. Abbreviations must be proceeded by giving the full text when first used. In research studies in which investigations are carried on human beings or animals, as well as in clinical studies approval of the Bioethics Committee must be obtained and included in the manuscript.  

8. Illustrative material may include black and white or coloured photographs or technical drawings, on white paper, clearly contrasting, or drawings on white paper. Photographs must be scanned on CD-Rom or on diskette. On the back of each figure please mark the top of it, and write the name of the author, title of the article and number of the figure. Titles of all figures should be written on a separate page in Polish and in English.

9. Tables, their titles and contents should be written both in English and Polish in Word for Windows in format A4, with double spacing. In the text please mark where the table or figure should be inserted.

10. The references should be given in the order of citation and should be limited to those quoted in the text. In original articles the number of references should not exceed 30. In review papers not more than 40. Each reference should include the surname of the author(s) and the first letter of the first name, the title of the article, the title of the journal (INDEX MEDICUS abbreviation), year, number, first and last page. If there are more than 3 authors the name of the first should be followed by “et al...”. When quoting book references give the surname of the author(s), first letter of the first name, title of chapter, title of book, publisher, place and year of publishing.

11. Authors should state if there is any conflict of interest concerning the authors and the publication. Publications of studies sponsored by pharmaceutical forms should include adnotation of this fact.  The submitted manuscript must be accompanied by a statement signed by all authors that they participated in the preparation, investigations and writing of the paper and that they take responsibility for the contents. Also the authors state that the article has not been published or sent for publishing to other journals. The authors also state that there is no conflict of interests at time of submission such as: Conflict of interests takes place when one or more authors has links or financial dependence with industry, direct or through nearest family. If the work concerns products sponsered by the firm the authors must include this information. 

12. Submitted papers are peer-reviewed by two reviewers and are then qualified for publication by the Editor in Chief. Reviews are anonymous. The authors receive the reviewer’s comments concerning corrections or disqualification. 

13. The editing board reserves the right to make relevant editing corrections and abbreviations.

14. Authors receive one copy of the journal free of charge. On request, acces to PDF file containing their article is available.

15. Manuscripts not concording to the above instructions will be returned to be corrected.

16. The editors take no responsibility for contents of advertistments.

17. The editors do not return papers which have not been ordered.

18. Copyright of papers accepted for publication are taken over by the editors of Medycyna Wieku Rozwojowego/Developmental Period Medicine.
